John Ramsey called our first Plus level dance of 2014 on 1/10 and we danced 5 squares at times. Broken Wheel came with enough to raid our banner which was great to have them with us as usual. Caroline won the cake walk prize which was brought by Carolyn
Our theme of the evening was PJs and Pies so several of our members and guests showed up in their jammies which you can see below in the picture that was taken at the dance.
The free dance pass given to a member that had donated refreshments for the snack table went to Lori and then Lori drew my wife’s ticket for the 50/50 drawing.
On 12/13/2013 we had our first student level dance for the 2013-2014 year. Tom Strickland was the caller for the dance and we had 6 students attend the dance. Lake Erie Squares banner raided with 13 members. We danced 5 squares most of the night. Terry Kremzar won the free dance pass for bringing some goodies for the snack table and even though the president held the bucket of 50-50 tickets above her head, Terry succeeded in drawing her husband’s ticket. The cakewalk prize that Norm and Marilyn Ostroske provided was won by Jeff Zemito.
Below is a sampling of the pictures taken at the dance.
We had a great time dancing to Ed Pabst at Brecksville with 8 squares dancing at various times during the evening.
We were successful in retrieving our banner at Brecksville on 11/15. Terry and Bill Kremzar, Barb and Bob Davis, Betty Clay, Ed Donohoe, Frank Macuga and I think Ron Soukup and Jan Waryk signed in as Solo’s so we had enough dancers to do the retrieval. If I am wrong about the names please let me know so that I can give proper credit.
We now have to get our banners back from Medina and Hubs and also start raiding so that we get other clubs banners for them to come to Solo’s to retrieve it back.
Thanks to 15 members we had a successful banner retrieval at Lake Erie Squares on Saturday 11/2. The members were Susan and Spanky, Caroline and Frank, Marilyn and Norm, Terry and Bill, Barb and Bob, Virginia and Gary, Sherrie, Beverly, Betty and Betsy. Thanks to everyone that attended. We have three more banners to retrieve:
The Solo’s club also received a certificate of Thanks from the Lake Erie club. They presented the certificates to other clubs also.
I just found out yesterday that the Cleveland Federation website has a new web address. So for those that have the Cleveland Federation bookmarked or in there favorites you need to change the entry to:
On October 25th we held the Halloween dance and danced 4 squares to Chris Jacobs most of the night. We had guests from Hubs, Brecksville, Lake Erie, Medina and North Coast. Hopefully I didn’t miss any club because I forgot to look at the sign in sheet.
Here is a picture of the dancers that came dressed for Halloween some more then others. Everyone had a good time and the snack table had quite a varied selection so nobody went away hungry.
On 10/11 we held our annual charity dance sponsoring “Believe in the Cure'” created by are own Beth Filina’s daughter-in-law Joanne Filinia. Thanks to our members and visitors we raised $351 that will be used here in Ohio to focus on adolescent and young adult cancer research along with providing funds to families that need assistance in paying the medical bills that pile up during cancer treatment. You can learn more about this charity at Joanne’s website BelieveInTheCure.org.
Our visiting clubs were Brecksville, Circulator’s who had a banner retrieval, Broken Wheel who banner raided, Lake Erie and Western Whirlers. There were times that we had 6 squares up at a time dancing to Mike Sumpter.
The cake walk prize was provided by Frank and Caroline Walters and was won by Sherrie. The fifty-fifty was won by one of the Circulator Square Dance members.
