Welcome
We were a singles club when the club was founded in 1961 but NOW our membership is open to everyone who graduates from a plus level class. The purpose of Solo Squares Dance Club is to promote square dancing and to foster a spirit of good fellowship in the square dance community. To do this we provide square dance classes for new students with a qualified caller.
What is square dancing? It is not the gym ( I’m sorry, Physical Education) sessions that you might have had back in elementary school days but a social activity which engages you in connecting with people. Some say it is “friendship set to music” and this activity is indeed a great way to create friendships. Square dancing is perceived as an “old folk” dance but it is far from that! Below is a You Tube video showing several different venues where square dances have been held and perhaps it would be better if we would call it Pattern Dancing” as they do in this video!!

LessonsOur new student classes will start on Monday September 13th, 2021. The 3 introductory lessons held on September 13th, 20th and 27th are free and the cost of the lessons after that are $5.00 per lesson or $45.00 for 10 weeks of lessons. Lessons are held Mondays at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 276 E. Bagley Rd, Berea, Ohio on the corner of Eastland and Bagley from 7 to 9 PM. If you are taking lessons at another club, feel free to come join us for additional reinforcement of what you are learning or to make up a lesson if you are unable to attend your normal class night. All ages welcome, singles or couples. Our instructor is John Ramsey, a member of American Callers Association., and a very able teacher. Basics (Mainstream calls) are taught until Christmas when you will be able to attend all the student level dances in the area. After the New Year until graduation in May, Plus Level calls are taught. Bring a friend or come by yourself since there are plenty of members willing to teach you. Ladies are encouraged to ask the gentleman to dance at square dances. Club members are called “angels”. Out of the goodness of their heart, they have given of their time to help keep our American tradition alive, teaching the American National Dance.
